CounterPath and Intrado to Develop First IP Softphone to Support E9-1-1

Vancouver, BC, Canada — September 20, 2006 – CounterPath Solutions, Inc. (OTCBB: CTPS), a leading provider of VoIP (Voice over IP) and Video over IP SIP softphones, has announced an alliance with Intrado Inc., the leading provider of VoIP E9-1-1 services. The companies are working together to develop a new functionality within CounterPath's softphone to support automatic location identification on mobile VoIP 9-1-1 calls.

The technology will enable the softphone to integrate directly with Intrado's systems in order to detect and send location information automatically when a 9-1-1 call is made from a wireless VoIP end-user device. This means that calls made from a softphone on a laptop or smartphone, for example, are directed to the appropriate public safety answering point (PSAP) and that emergency operators can link the caller's current physical location with the phone number used to dial for help. As a result, service providers deploying a CounterPath softphone with their VoIP service can provide E9-1-1 services to customers.

In August, CounterPath and Intrado's VoIP location technology was tested successfully in a joint E9-1-1 trial throughout New York City. The results proved the technology's consistent location identification ability.
